The great aspect of Social Media is that it is a 2-way, or multiple conversation. Unlike traditional tv commercials, where a controlled message is communicated one way, Social Media allows many people to way-in on subjects. People also have the ability to share content with as many people as they want with the click of a mouse. But why would someone share content? Why would someone share YOUR content?
This is where creating entertaining or informative content is crucial. Simply talking about how great your company, product, or service is, may not make the rounds in the virtual world. Why would someone send their friend "just another commercial"?
By being creative, funny, dramatic, engaging, informative, etc. you are inviting viewers to pass your content on to others.
As one example, say you own a cleaning product company. Why not create a series of videos demonstrating how to remove certain stains from certain fabrics. Of course, the videos feature your product, but the overall tone of the videos is helpful and informative.
To wrap up, keep your eyes and ears open. Listening is key in Social Media. Not only are you looking for content that has many hits, but also read comments. What are people saying about a particular piece of content? Hopefully this will help you in developing more targeted, shareable content.
